Events & Activities

All events and activities for 2022 are expected to be virtual

Ongoing offerings (Jan. 2022 update):

  • "Sing into Joy: Singing as Your Path to Wellness." Our ever-expanding, all-online initiative created in 2020.
In addition to live events, it includes a subscription series of prerecorded mini-lessons by master teacher Danielle Woerner, called "SongBytes."
  • Need a SINGER for a special event? Will follow all official and sensible COVID guidelines. Inquire within.

  • ACTORS', WRITERS' & MUSICIANS' ACTIVITIES & GROUPS throughout the year, currently all-online:
  • VIRTUAL THEATER & MUSIC ACTIVITIES, including
    • Readers' Theater for adults: reading classic and contemporary plays, and eventually also serving as a development vehicle for new plays in progress.
    • Youth Theater: continuing our tradition of creating original shows with teens and pre-teens, now in virtual form. The show with music The Lobsterman & His Wife: A DownEast Fairy Tale is now in the final stages of being transformed into a virtual production, soon to be mounted on YouTube.
    • Experimental small-group music-making online, using special Zoom settings that allow singers and instrumentlists to hear and play with each other in real time, with less internet lag.
  • FOR WRITERS AND LOVERS OF WRITING:

    • The Fall MILBRIDGE LIT-FEST was inaugurated in October-November 2017:  A celebration of writers, good writing and delicious reading, with guest presenters from Here and Away, offering workshops, readings and intensives. We plan to revive it with a more broadly regional flavor, as the DownEast BookFest.

    • NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writers' Month) each November.  Support groups online, advice, cheerleading; and for Writers From Away, a private, independent 3BR, 2 bath accommodation with all amenities, plenty of privacy for you to work, and the run of our wooded Point and beach for inspiration.  See Creativity Retreats link, next.

  • Creativity Retreats for writers, composers/songwriters and visual artists who want to "get away from it all" alone or in a small group of friends/colleagues, and produce!  Special retreats and rates for November NaNoWriMo novel-writing participants.

We plan to resume in the future:

  • In-person Middle/High School DRAMA PROGRAM at Narraguagus JrSr High School, with runout performances of our shows to other venues in the area. The 2018-19 show, The Lobsterman & His Wife: A DownEast Fairy Tale, with music and an original script, also traveled to Narraguagus Bay Health Care and to UMM for its Thou Art Fair
  • CONCERTS throughout the year, at our Center (by reservation - limited seating), and in larger public area venues.

Also on the Drawing Board:

  • STARRY NIGHTS out on our peninsula!  Amateur astronomers: join us inside the "bowl of stars" that surrounds us on clear late-summer and fall nights.  We're lucky to have almost no light pollution.   BYOT!   Ask about dates, or RSVP.
  • TEACHING RESIDENCIES by SCAI staff, and visiting artists and directors in music, theater, writing, visual arts, to share their knowledge and experience. When it's safe to gather again.  Watch for details or join our mailing list!
  • MILBRIDGE YOUTH SUMMER THEATER COMPANY  (MYSTCo):   A condensed 1-to-2-week program with guest directors, culminating in a weekend of performances.  We may conduct these activities outdoors in order to start them in 2022.
