just 4 minutes from Main Street
Private Apartment on an Estate
1,300 sq. ft.
3 - 7 nights
High season: 7 night minimum, Saturday to Saturday
About the property:
3-BR, 2-bath private apartment, handicap-accessible, on 3.5 acres with a wooded Point and sand beach
Our home was built in 2002, on a 3-1/2 acre property with a fascinating Revolutionary War history. The house is right along quiet Fickett's Point Road, on the back side of Narraguagus Bay just minutes from Milbridge's center. It's a great road for scenic walks & biking. Cross the broad field behind our house, and you come to a footbridge leading to our own wooded peninsula, used only by our family and guests, which gives you 270-degree views of the ocean, bay, town, and spectacular sunsets across the water. Enjoy the sights from the trail, the benches, or take a meal out to the picnic table! Sunsets are spectacular out there.
A set of stairs leads you down to the beach, one of the rare sand beaches on the Maine coast — along with the large boulders characteristic of the area.
We're near the town marina, and kayak rentals are nearby.
We live in the adjoining home space, made sonically and visually private from the 1300 SF apartment. The rental apartment is all on the ground floor, with its own private entrances, garden, and a patio/terrace facing the water. The facility is handicap-accessible, with wide doorways and hall, and flooring of tile, wood and low-nap carpeting — smooth surfaces for walkers or wheelchairs. We have a golf cart in which we can ferry less walking-abled guests out to the Point on request.
Bedrooms are large for this part of Maine. Two have queen beds, and one a double bed with electric comfort controls. One Queen BR has its own private bathroom with shower. The other two BR's share a bathroom with a large tiled shower. The fully appointed kitchen has excellent appliances, including dishwasher and high quality LP gas range/oven. And of course a lobster pot!
The dining area is off the large living room, and the apartment has its own washer & dryer. Decor and furnishings are charming, restful — and unique, not off-the-rack.
Other amenities: New flat-screen television with Direct TV, Netflix, internet music programs and other bundled services. High-speed DSL. Very good audio system. Cell services have always worked fine in our location. Small library, games and puzzles for rainy days, etc.
Since acquiring this home in April 2014, we've been gradually restoring the lovely garden beds that surround the house. They combine native and wild plants with more formal plantings. The apartment has its own "secret garden" area, and private patio with a view across the fields and bay.
Though 2014 was our first year at Fish Point, we've owned a vacation cottage in Milbridge since 2008, and have rented to travelers since 2009. We've gotten raves from our renters at both properties!
LOCATION, LOCATION: Guests often tell us how much they enjoy Milbridge as a home base, and how happy they are about our location along the coast, since we're about equidistant from Mt. Desert Island (Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor) and the farthest-east coastal towns like Lubec and Eastport — and Campobello Island! Bring passports for Campobello; it's Canada. It's easy to make a day or half-day trip to these famous, fascinating vacation spots from our place, and also to visit the Canadian mainland.
2016 was the 100th Anniversary year of ACADIA NATIONAL PARK. The main part of the Park is on Mount Desert Island, about an hour from us. But a less-known section, Schoodic Point, is just about 25 minutes away, and is quieter, fewer crowds, same breath-taking views. Schoodic Point, this part of Acadia that Mainers tend to frequent, also has a fine information and conference center and campground, a lovely picnic area, and is near many art and craft studios.
Our guests' vacation and retreat rental fees help to support the work of Sunrise County Arts Institute, the small Maine non-profit we founded in 2014 as a resource for quality music, theater, writing and visual arts activities in Milbridge and the DownEast/Acadia area.

TRAVELERS WITH PETS: We run as allergy-free a home as possible, for ourselves as well as our guests. We do ask guests to arrange for their animals to stay at home. But a single well-behaved HYPOALLERGENIC-ONLY dog may be considered. (These are dogs with hair rather than fur/dander; for example, Havanese, bichon, poodle, Maltese.) We have a sweet Havanese ourselves. Extra security deposit and/or cleaning surcharge may be requested if a pet is approved.
